Greening Tetbury objects to Miller Homes planning application
Greening Tetbury has agreed as an organisation to put in objections to the Miller Homes development and encourages our members to put in individual objections.
Miller Homes is preparing application to build 130 houses on hay meadows to the south of Longfurlong Lane. Chris Giles of Longfurlong Greenfields Association LGA outlined their objections to this development at our meeting in April.
Chris also set out LGA's alternative proposal to create Longfurlong Meadows Community Nature Area. This proposal has been submitted to Cotswold District Council as a 'Change of Use' planning application.
If, after reading our piece on soil, you agree that it’s vital to protect these meadows and the rights of way that give us access to nature, you can add your voice to the hundreds already objecting to this by supporting LGA

Joining forces with Malmesbury Flood Management (MFM)
Greening Tetbury is working with MFM to identify measures that would help reduce flooding in Malmesbury by slowing flow upstream from the Tetbury Avon during wet weather.
This will largely involve contacting landowners adjacent to the river to consult on measures they could take but could involve volunteering to help them implement the measures.

Our visit to Equisera - the future of waste management?
We had a fascinating visit to Equisera, an eco engineering company, on 15 April. In partnership with UK universities, technology companies and the Government’s “Innovate UK”, they’ve developed a process to convert biogenic material (including plastics) into valuable materials like biochar, bio-methane, hydrogen and CO2.

James Milner CEO explained the process and showed us the four successful prototypes that have demonstrated the efficiency and scalability of the technology as well as a fifth prototype that will take them closer to bringing the technology to market, they hope by 2028.

Birds of Tetbury - who did we hear on our Dawn Chorus Walk?
Seven of us set out from the Goods Shed on a chilly spring morning led by Dan. No Merlin App was needed as Dan has an admirable knowledge of birdsong.
We stopped along the way as Dan helped us to pick out the calls and songs of blue tit, great tit, skylark, wren, song thrush, and robin as well as the more easy to identify jackdaw, rook, crow and wood pigeon.
It was joyous to hear such a wide variety of birds in the rail park, especially the skylark, one of our endangered farmland birds whose numbers have plummeted by 65% in the last 50 years. Supporting farmland birds is mostly down to farmers and how they manage their land.
