Connecting with Tetbury youth and the council

We represented you at the Town Council’s Annual Meeting and joined in on the Cotswold Community Showcase hosted by Sir William Romney School in May.
There was genuine interest in our work and visitors young and old enthusiastically took part in our quiz on the May theme of Soil. We also made good contacts with other local groups, including a Gloucestershire youth group who showed interest in joining in with our hedge planting work.
Malmesbury River Management Group
We were joined by Malmesbury members of the group to plan how to manage the Tetbury Avon to support wildlife and, at the same time, reduce flow in wet weather and relieve flooding down stream.
We’re starting this project with our Malmesbury neighbours by exploring the tributaries of the River Avon to see where wildlife could be supported and flood management measures be possible.

We started with the Ingleburn, the source of the river Avon that runs through the Rail Lands. Run-off from the new estates along Cirencester Road already increases the flow in rainy weather and the Worwell housing and medical centre development is adding to this. Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust did great work a few years ago with the Feoffes and Town Council as part of the ERDF Wild Towns project in the Rail Lands and we hope to work with them to continue this work.
In June we’ll be walking the tributary that flows from Chavenage and joins the river below Bath Bridge. As well as the exploratory work we’re doing, there will be probably be practical work down the line.
Get in touch if you’d like to be part of this project.

Woolsack, Human Fruit Machine
Unfortunately we didn’t have enough volunteers to make this possible in the heatwave conditions of the bank holiday.
Lizzie Adkins has created a great set up for the game (with help from the brilliant Men’s Shed team) so we hope to bring it to a future event.
